2022.01.21 02:31 Good-Ad2536 Let's at Least Try - Day 20
Hello everyone. My father was born in 1965 and loves movies, but has never been interested in the superhero genre, as it gets a bit repetitive for him. He has evidently never read a comic book in his life. I asked him about the ones he has seen and this is what we were able to compile: Superman (1978), Superman II, Superman III, Batman (1989), Batman Returns, Batman Forever, Blade (1998), X-Men (2000), Blade II, Spider-Man (2002), X2, Spider-Man 2, Blade: Trinity, Batman Begins, X-Men: The Last Stand, Superman Returns, Spider-Man 3, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. As you may notice, he has never seen a single MCU movie. This is because by the time the MCU was born, he had already seen so many superhero movies that he found it insubstantial to spend movie tickets on it. The only reason he saw The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises was because he loved the serious, realistic tone of Batman Begins.
Anyway, since for him getting into the MCU is no big deal, I decided to run a little experiment. I want to test the statement that "chronological order is useless as a first viewing, as it doesn't give you the full experience". My dad knows well how superheroes work in movies, so I'll let him decide if watching these movies in chronological order for the first time is a good or bad thing.
Today, January 20, we saw Thor: Ragnarok.
Something magical happened. My dad loved this movie, even more than any other MCU movie he's seen to date, and I've honestly never seen him laugh so hard at a movie. Throughout our journey to this day, he was never a passionate Thor fan. He always found him to be an interesting character on the surface, but usually the world and characters surrounding him made him feel somewhat off, in his opinion. The brotherly drama with Loki was losing more and more steam, the relationship with Jane felt completely disposable to him, and Asgard most of the time felt like an anchor that kept Odinson from reaching his full potential as an MCU hero. Well, this movie destroyed all of that and my dad loved it. He really appreciated this fresh air they tried to give the character by completely recontextualizing his position in the grand scheme of things. The parallel this film builds to the first one, where Thor was exiled to a remote location to learn a valuable lesson about himself, is brilliant. Years ago that remote spot was Earth, the only place where the character could discover the humanity that lay within him. Now it was Sakaar's turn, a cosmic dump that forces Thor to understand the force that exists within him, that his inheritance is not simply a throne atop the largest palace, the one he refused to sit on for years. My dad told me that Thor's heritage is the idea of protection, not for the countless brilliant resources that were taken from the other worlds during the years of Asgard's conquest, but for the people who are innocent of all those family sins. Thor's inheritance is to make right all that his father did wrong, which is materialized by the presence of Hela.
He loved Hela. Her very arrogant personality and immense power are a very clear representation of the Thor prior to his banishment to Earth. She's an antagonist who calls into question all of the protagonist's abilities and that's incredible. The way she murders all of Thor's friends without a shred of compassion is brilliant, in my father's opinion. All of her anger, what motivates her to wipe out entire legions of Asgardians, comes directly from the actions of Odin, the perfect ruler who was never perfect. He built a kingdom on the suffering of others, created a power-hungry psychopath, tried to use an alien baby to raise as an Asgardian merely to serve as a peace offering, and nearly doomed his entire planet against Malekith if not for Thor's intervention. He is a failed king, a man broken in his ideals and blinded by the interests of a place and not his morals. He only did one thing right his whole life, and that was to have banished Thor. That was the great decision that redeemed him because the young Thor was on the exact same path as Odin and Odin managed to rescue him at the last second. Thor isn't fighting Hela at the end of the movie, he's fighting the younger, inhuman version of himself, what he would have become if his father had never rescued him. There is a certain charm to Thor's last decision in the film being to annihilate Asgard completely, to start from scratch so he can get the innocent people to safety and spare them all of his father's mistakes.
He was in awe of the fantastic way this film uses Doctor Strange. Respecting his mysticism and motivation, he simply does what he has to do in an iconic way and then takes his leave. That was extremely important in letting the rest of the film break Thor in solitude. Loki's redemption in this film he also thought was phenomenal. He loved that the film touched on the theme of this character being stuck in a cycle of betrayal and trust that leads nowhere. Here he finally grows as an individual and understands that the only scenario in which he might not be completely miserable is alongside his brother, not against him. It was also a huge treat and a giant surprise to suddenly see the Hulk again. Really liked the direction they took with their story, having the Hulk take control completely for long enough to finally be able to have a conversation with other people and feel genuine emotions other than just anger. He's just a kid trying to live his own life and not suffer the constant confinement Bruce subjected him to in his time on Earth. He equally enjoyed that this movie ridicules the attempted relationship between Bruce and Natasha, but without disrespecting that idea at any point, as the emotional core of Bruce wanting to be happy is still there. He found all the characters incredibly well written, from the older ones like Heimdall to the new additions like Valkyrie and Skurge. They all have something to contribute to the main idea of the film: discovering the potential in oneself. Everyone wants to run away from the conflict and let the consequences come, but it's Thor's constant actions that finally convince everyone that it's worth fighting at least one last time. Because that's what heroes do.
And yes, another major point of him enjoying this movie so much was the comedy implemented. Not only because of the creative and nimbly performed dialogue by the actors, but also because of the way this comedy was filmed with smarter shots that take just enough and necessary from each scene, as well as the colorful and vivid set designs that are so rare in the MCU. The film uses everything wrong with the predecessors to create top-notch comedic sequences and the best of these to create emotional moments that have a proper closure. He told me that this movie has a real personality that goes beyond the name of its titular character, it's an original superheroic expression that sets high all that this universe is capable of if it puts its mind to it. It's his favorite movie so far, and he told me he's very surprised to say that because Tony and Steve, his favorite characters, aren't involved in it in any substantial way. He's becoming more and more interested in the cosmic side of the MCU, this is the movie that finally allows him to confirm that thought. Now, thanks to his reaction, I can safely say that having seen Captain Marvel, Black Widow and Black Panther before seeing Thor: Ragnarok did not negatively affect his experience at all. Accordingly, having seen this movie right after Doctor Strange helped him get a solid sense of continuity because of that movie's final scene.
(As soon as my dad saw the final scene with that huge ship intercepting the Asgardian refugees, he started making his theories. He noticed the little look Loki gave the Tesseract, so he's pretty sure he stole it before he destroyed Asgard. That's why he knows it has something to do with the Infinity Stones. Someone wants the Tesseract and from the way the movie filmed the moment, it can't be any good. The first thing that came to his mind with hearing that imposing music is Thanos. My dad is extremely intrigued to know what the purple giant wants these cosmic objects for. He told me that it better be Thanos on that huge ship and not another one of his emissaries, like Loki and Ronan in the past. He commented that if that idiot keeps sitting in his floating chair, my dad will lose his mind hahahah).
My dad's ranking so far:
1.- Thor: Ragnarok
2.- Captain America: Civil War
3.- Iron Man 3
4.- Guardians of the Galaxy
5.- The Avengers
6.- Iron Man
7.- Captain America: The Winter Soldier
8.- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
9.- Doctor Strange
10.- Spider-Man: Homecoming
11.- Black Panther
13.- Avengers: Age of Ultron
15.- Iron Man 2
16.- Captain America: The First Avenger
17.- Captain Marvel
18.- Thor: The Dark World
19.- Black Widow
20.- The Incredible Hulk

2022.01.21 02:31 F_Kaufman Do I need a business credit card before I purchase the needed things for my business?
I have never used a credit card, I only use debit, so I'm really new to credit cards. I did take some classes to understand a little about it. But do I really need it? Is it absolutely necessary?

2022.01.21 02:31 GeorgeBushIsIsis What’s the best way to slowly taper off?
I’ve been using weed for 1.5 years and I’ve eventually found myself somewhat addicted, I get withdrawal symptoms without it and i don’t want to deal with this anymore. My plan is to go from almost everyday highs to once a week highs. Am I doing this right? Will this lower my tolerance and also prevent me from having withdrawal symptoms in the future because I’m not technically going cold Turkey?

2022.01.21 02:31 BrinanaFox Coping with loss
Hello everyone. I won’t give my name, but I will say that I am a 22 year old woman. I have been through a lot recently, over the past few years. I’ve lost quite a few people, an uncle, a grandfather, a grandmother. But most recently ( about a month after the passing of my grandmother) my father passed away. It was extremely unexpected and I have really been struggling with it. Not that I have dealt with the other deaths in the greatest of ways ( I feel like I just suppressed my emotions and went on autopilot for a while) I feel like I am not dealing with it well at all. I’ve been trying to let myself feel my feelings but sometimes it just feels like I have too many to let out, like I just want to scream until no sound comes out. I guess I could just use some advice or just a kind word. It’s just very very hard

2022.01.21 02:31 Lumpy-Performance120 Bot Accounts That Sexualize Minors…
Recently, Instagram bot accounts have started using real pictures off of my friends Instagram accounts to make a Fansly account (basically OnlyFans). These girls are all minors, and I don’t know how it can be stopped, I know bots are already a big ongoing issue, but sexualizing minors is too far; the only reason I know these accounts exist is because they request to follow me through her following list.
I don’t know why, or who’s doing it, but it’s happened to multiple friends so far.

2022.01.21 02:31 InfamousRepair8001 Running into my first issues.
Sorry for the multiple posts lately. Going on day 2 of my system and I’m noticing things/issues. First, the back is lifting..a lot. It seems as though my natural hair has gotten underneath. I don’t think my stylist did the best of jobs with the tape at the back. He put it too far up towards the crown and not the edge. Second is a question about the hairline. Is it normal to have it look…idk chunky?? Like I feel like I can see where the hairs are knotted in too much. I also feel like I can see the plastic a bit. Take a look at the pics please and tell me what you think.

2022.01.21 02:31 SDSHIPPER Trying to compile a database for excel
I am currently building a database of buyers and want to create a macros United States map to show hot areas of my buyers.
Each sheet of the master will have a buyer and a column dedicated to areas the buyers are buying in.
Anyone know how I can integrate this to maybe show pin points on a map.
I guess I could do this on G Maps but I want it on the excel.
