2021.09.19 18:05 Needadvice567899 Question about rubella igg ab results
38 year old female, 8 weeks pregnant I recently received my early pregnancy bloodwork. My rubella igg ab was 101.1 This was flagged as an abnormal result. The patient portal says this number should be under 10, but everything I have read online says that it should be over 10. My doctor is not in until tomorrow and I am worried. Can anyone clarify - is this a normal result?

2021.09.19 18:05 SproutedEstates I'm not vaccinated - and here's why
Hello fellow Ottawa redditors,
I'm 31 years old, and had covid in March 2020. I was exposed when I worked as a retail manager in a 1500sqft building that saw over 2000 customers per day when cases were steadily rising in Ottawa and people were panic buying. My symptoms were mild, and I was never concerned about it becoming serious. For context, a few months later I had the flu (got tested anyway but was negative) which was far worse than covid in my case.
Now there is scientific data on the resilience of those who have already had covid vs. other strains like Delta https://www.science.org/content/article/having-sars-cov-2-once-confers-much-greater-immunity-vaccine-vaccination-remains-vital
I have worked in kitchens since I was 17, and went to culinary school. I understand nutrition and it's incredible power on immunity. I cook for myself, eat plant based, and have done so for over a decade. I was always athletic as a child and still exercise vigorously every day, twice sometimes 3 times per day via workouts at outdoor gyms with my own equipment, long distance running, and cycling, which I have also done consistently now for over 2 decades. I don't smoke, drink, or do drugs of any kind. I don't drink coffee, take Tylenol, or get flu shots. I allow nature to do it's thing, my role being to create an environment within my own body that encourages it to sustain itself and thrive.
I have done and have been doing my part to be a healthy individual for all of my life. There isn't a quick way to build up the immunity I have, those like me will understand this. I am not anti vax, and have had all other vaccinations. I don't think that the vaccine is controversial, just the means by which we're being influenced to take it.
Excluding the elderly, the immune comprised, or genetically diseased, it's interesting that the majority of people being hospitalized have preventable comorbidities. Heart disease, type-2 diabetes, and lung disease have been found in the majority of folks who go to the ICU for covid. Diseases that cost our healthcare system billions of dollars every year and have been for decades. Yet people complain about the cost of ICU treatment for covid. We don't prevent obese people from lining up at fast food drive-thrus. We don't mandate forced marches and exercise for the capable but lazy. We don't have an additional tax for those who refuse to take care of their body's basic needs. The suggestion would be preposterous and would create an uproar.
I haven't heard anyone in media from politicians to health professionals offer any suggestions during this pandemic regarding people's lifestyle choices - that's a tragedy in itself. When there is a Tim Horton's in every hospital lobby, the messaging we're sending people is one of "eat the junk you want, smoke what you want, sit around all day, the government will be here to take care of you when your body has lost it's ability to take care of itself" Covid shattered that idea didn't it?
It targeted those who were already making poor daily choices that would continue them down the path of unhealth. The vaccine is just a Band-Aid solution for those who were laying their own track to premature hospitalization and death. Now those people are the ones complaining, because they realize how fragile they are which is no ones fault but their own - but you'll never hear them take accountability for it.
Another thing. I'm close with people who work in restaurants in this city. You have to be vaccinated to eat there, but you don't have to be vaccinated to work there. So you will be served by people who are unvaccinated, along with the people cooking your food. It is clear to me that the vaccine mandate is the way for government to punish those who don't obey them. I went 1.5 years without warm water in my apartment and never even brought it up to management because I can tolerate most things. You're going to have to do a lot more to inconvenience someone like me.
I am someone who has always voted Green since they were of age. But now I'm forced to vote PPC because Max is the only politician with enough sense to understand that this is not the way forward. The current govt and Justin Trudeau just love to label all those unvaccinated for any number of reasons as "anti-vaxxers" which is beyond concerning and infuriating.
I believe in this vaccine and its effectiveness for those who need it, and agree many who really should get it are not and that's not great, but it's more a reflection of the distrust people have in our govt. I'm glad it's available and for free (not the case in India). I am not anti vax, and not much is stopping me from getting it other than not wanting to encourage the governments "Do as I say" mentality or approach. Where does it stop? You give an inch they take a mile. Once I feel like we have a government that works for us, I will be more willing to cooperate with them.
I understand this is lengthy, but I won't respond to comments from people that didn't take the time to read it fully.

2021.09.19 18:05 forest_bark A civilian at my workplace called me four times in an hour before 9:00 a.m....
Hi everyone, I want to first say that this person is not my supervisor. I am a government contractor and she is a civilian employee. You probably don't know what this means if you don't work for the government, but let's just say that the dynamics can get a bit twisted...
The supervisor is someone I have known and worked with closely for years. She is the supervisor for the civilian workers in my department. Because my contract just changed over to a new company, I have been waiting for my security paperwork to go through so that I can start my job. Last week, I was still working on a separate project for my new contract company and not expecting a call from her. I am also not as attached to my phone as a lot of people, and will often go without looking at it for hours. If it is core work hours then I try to keep it with me and check it frequently, but in the mornings and evenings I generally do not.
On Thursday morning, I woke up pretty early but did not look at my phone for a couple hours and when I finally did (at around 9 a.m.) saw that she had called me four times between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. and left one message that just said "call me back." When I saw this, I was not shocked and did not expect the matter to be urgent based on what I know of her. She tends to be very dramatic and blow things out of proportion, especially when it can potentially undermine another colleague.
I called her back 20 minutes later because I know she has a meeting on Thursday mornings at 9:00 a.m...
When we spoke, she made a joke about me being in Belize on vacation and sleeping in. She said she had mentioned this to another civilian coworker in a leadership position (about me sleeping in and how that must be nice).
Unsurprisingly, there was nothing urgent and nothing actionable at that time with regards to my security paperwork. She was calling to let me know that it had gone to the next level, and that someone would be contacting me likely that day for next steps.
The next day, I went into the office and talked to the other civilian coworker to whom she had mentioned me "sleeping in." The coworker said that her behavior was "harassing" - and clearly did not approve of calling someone four times in an hour as if it was urgent when it clearly was not.
This supervisor has a history of throwing others under the bus and generally speaking badly about everyone else behind their backs. She undermines everyone.... to the point that there was actually a military officer we worked with who said he would fall on his sword to get rid of her because of her toxic behavior. Unfortunately nothing happened despite the efforts of many who have documented and reported her behaviors. There has been an IG investigation which resulted in a slap on the wrist and subsequently she was promoted.
Has anyone else experienced this, especially if you are government contractor and work with civilians? What is an effective way of dealing with this? And please do not tell me to find another job, as that does nothing to fix the institution in its problems.
